A Tranquil Himalayan Town – Kasauli
Kasauli is a beautiful small hill station in the north Indian state of Himachal Pradesh located at an altitude of 1,800 m. The town is 71.4 km from Shimla and 57.3 km from Chandigarh. This place was brought into existence by the British Raj as a cantonment during its peak period in India. It is a place where you keep close to nature’s heart and wash your sprit clean. This heavenly place is a home to the most paradisiacal attractions that offer a soul-satisfying and a mind blowing experience.
Kasauli is surrounded by a forest of oak, pine and chestnut trees and is a perfect place for those looking for a quiet break. As the wind whistles through the pines and leaves crunch under your feet, your worries disappear for a time as you listen to the melodies of the wind in the trees, this is how magical Kasauli is! Some people say that Kasauli has not much to do but I strongly disagree! Kasauli is fun if you know where to go.
The Manki Point Temple
The best way to kick-start the day is by visiting Manki Point temple which is about 4 km from the centre of the town. According to the Ramayana, when Lord Hanuman was returning from the Himalayas after acquiring the “Sanjivani Booty”, one of his feet touched the hill, that’s why the top of the hill is in the shape of a foot. Monkey point is a perfect spot for the nature lovers who adore getting lost in what can be described as a wonderful combination of scenic views, hopping monkeys, and peaceful vibes.
The Heritage Market
The colorful hustle bustle of the town is found on the Kasauli Mall Road which is a beautiful small market for the shopaholics. The road is at its vibrant best during early evenings and a stroll here is highly recommended. The momos of Upper Mall Road, bun samosas and gulabjamuns of Narinder Sweet Shop, and pasta and pizza of Café Mantra at the Heritage Market are the scrumptious treats that you can relish.
The Historic Christ Church
One historic landmark in Kasauli is the Christ Church which was established in 1844 in Gothic style architecture and is one of the oldest Churches in Himachal. The Church is constructed in the shape of a cross, built by the British families that laid the foundation of Kasauli town in year 1842. The heritage church features a clock tower and a sundial in the front. The tall trees surrounding the church engulfed in mysterious fog, lend this place a very mystifying aura.
The Sunset Point and The Gilbert Trail
The Sunset Point and The Gilbert Trail are the places specifically for nature admirers. It is almost impossible to watch a sunset and not dream. At sunset point, every evening the sky becomes a canvas adorned with colors, a sight which is worth to behold. A walk along the Gilbert Trail is one of the best ways to rejuvenate yourself in Kasauli. It is a 1.5 km walkway from the Lover’s Lane along the narrow winding paths of the rocky cliffs filled with greenery and scenic beauty worth marvelling at. You will be awe-struck by the magnificent view of the surroundings.
The Central Research Institute
If you’re in Kasauli for the weekend, you will feel like you’re running out of time because there is so much to explore. The Central Research Institute (CRI) also known as the Pasteur Institute of India, was founded in 1905 as an institute working in the fields of immunology and virological research. It has a marvellous architecture which lures in travellers from around the world. The contribution of the Institute towards vaccine production during the period of the Second World War for the immunisation of troops to keep them fighting fit, finds no parallel.

Looking for adventure? I know just the right place. The Sanawar Nature Camp is an eco-friendly camping site and is a destination where you can fulfil your dream to live in an environment which is away from the metropolitan chaos. The camp is 6.8 km from Kasauli and is surrounded by pine trees and meadows of wild flowers. Imagine.
